FINISHING MEDIA & COMPOUNDS

Vibratory Finishing involves a piece of equipment that creates motion and a combination of media and compound that are carefully selected to achieve the desired result. Many combinations of finishing media and compounds are available, depending on whether the purpose of your application is to clean, deburr, deflash, polish, edge radius, or surface refinement.

Vibratory finishing media is manufactured in thousands of shape, size, and composition combinations.

VIBRATORY FINISHING MEDIA TYPES

Ceramic Media

Ceramic media is the most common type of media in the industry. It has a higher density than plastic and typically performs more work in the same amount time.  Ceramic medias are used to finish and polish harder materials like steel and metal alloys.  High density ceramic medias are also used for polishing and surface improvement, including chemically accelerated finishing.

Plastic Media

Plastic media is used to clean and deburr softer, non-ferrous metals like aluminum, zinc, and brass. Since it has a lower density, it is a great option for deburring and polishing these softer metals. It is also commonly used to achieve pre-plate finishes and for finishing die-cast parts.

Steel Media

Steel media is extremely dense, making it a good option for burnishing and polishing of steel, aluminum, and brass. Process times can be greatly reduced using steel media. Steel media is the longest lasting type of media, provided that it is properly cared for in between extended times between usage. Because of its weight, not all types of mass finishing equipment are able to utilize steel media, so compatibility must always be verified.

Organic Media

Organic media (crushed corn cob & walnut shell) are very popular for drying parts after vibratory processing. They are commonly used in this fashion to clean media residue and water spotting from prior operations. Additives are commonly used in organic media to polish soft alloys and jewelry.

Vibratory finishing media is manufactured in thousands of shape, size, and composition combinations.
