BLAST MEDIA
Glass Bead
Glass bead impact media is formulated from chemically inert soda-lime glass and is spherical in shape.
Common applications include:
- Removal of carbon deposits
- Removing heat treatment scale and weld discoloration
- Mold cleaning
- Finishing of food preparation and medical equipment
- Deburring cast, machined and stamped parts
- Peening aerospace and automotive parts.
Aluminum Oxide
Brown fused aluminum oxide abrasives are engineered to meet the requirements of pressure blast operations. Popular applications include:
- surface preparation
- coatings and paint removal
- heat treat and mill scale removal
- cleaning surface contaminants
- imparting anchor patterns
- surface blending
- mold cleaning
- glass etching
- monument lettering.
Steel Shot & Steel Grit
AMASTEEL Shot & Grit have greater mass and density compared to other blasting media. They deliver more power to the surface, improving cleaning rates and lowering consumption costs.
AMASTEEL Shot & Grit are produced with precise control of their microstructure to deliver maximum durability and impact energy transfer.
Coal Slag
Coal slag abrasives offer superior cleaning ability, thanks to hard, angular particles that enhance speed and cutting.
Coal slag is a preferred alternative to silica sand which can contain up to 99% free silica and has been found to cause silicosis, a sometimes fatal lung disease.
- Less than 0.1% free silica
- Low dusting
- Chemically inert
- Hard, angular pieces enhance speed and cutting
- Very low friability = less fracturing or splintering
- Consistent uniform weight and gradation ensures no clogging
Garnet
Alluvial garnet is a first choice natural mineral material for water jet cutting and other blast applications.
Plastic Blast Media
Plastic blasting media consists of soft, reusable plastic particles. It is ideal for a vast range of uses in the aerospace, automotive and electronics industries:
- Paint removal
- Surface preparation
- Deflashing
- Contamination stripping
- Deburring
- Surface prep
- Mild cleaning
- Composite manufacture & refurbishment
Sodium Bicarbonate
Sodium Bicarbonate Media are baking soda based abrasives for the cleaning and removal of tough coatings and contaminants. They work easily and effectively without disturbing the base material.
Sodium Bicarbonate Media are used on-site in portable equipment for large projects as well as in contained systems such as glove box cabinets, modular units or blast rooms with dust control.
Crushed Glass
Crushed/Ground Glass is offered in a variety of sizes to meet your specific requirements. Crushed/Ground Glass is produced from selected cullet of clear soda lime glass and is non-crystalline, non-toxic and poses no silicosis hazards.
This is an inert abrasive that is recommended by NIOSH as a substitute for slag and mineral abrasives. It contains no heavy metals and no free silica, making it an ideal choice for blasting projects where it is impractical to recover lost or spilled spent abrasive.
Silicon Carbide
Black Silicon Carbide (SiC) grains and powders are manufactured in a variety of sizes to meet all of our customer’s needs. Black Silicon Carbide, also known as carborundum, is ideal for a wide variety of applications including vitrified and resinoid grinding wheels, friction, blasting, compounds, lapping, polishing, non-slip, wiresawing silicon and quartz, and many more.
Corn Cob & Walnut Shell
Crushed corn cob media are made from the woody ring portion of the corn cob. This portion of the cob is separated, dried, ground, air-cleaned, and then classified over screens of various mesh sizes. They are available in granules ranging from 1/4” to a fine powder.
Walnut shell is a hard, chemically inert, nontoxic, and biodegradable abrasive. It is processed from cleaned eastern black walnut shells that are grown in the midwestern and central eastern United States.
