MEDIA SUPPLIES
Glassbead
Glass bead is an alternative to traditional sandblasting media, gentle on delicate surfaces. It's eco-friendly, cost-effective, and widely used in the auto body field. With various sizes available, it produces a bright, smooth finish on materials like metal, glass, plastic, and rubber. Ideal for precision parts, it removes burrs without damaging the base metal. Additionally, it serves as a low-cost peening option for uniform stress levels.
Crushed Glass
Crushed glass blasting media is an engineered “sandblasting” media manufactured from 100% Recycled Bottle Glass. Crushed glass can be used as a good replacement for many abrasives, including silica-sand, lava, and coal slag (aka Black Beauty). Crushed Glass is approved for use in numerous federal and state government agencies, and military branches.
Aluminum Oxide
Brown fused aluminum oxide abrasive is engineered to meet the requirements of pressure blast operations. Popular applications include surface preparation, coatings and paint removal, heat treat and mill scale removal, cleaning surface contaminants, imparting anchor patterns, surface blending, mold cleaning, glass etching, and monument lettering.
Silicon Carbide
Silicon carbide is the hardest blasting media available. It is manufactured to a blocky grain shape that has sharp edges for blasting. This give it a very fast cutting speed and can be recycled and reused many more times than sand. The hardness of silicon carbide allows for much shorter blast times relative to softer blast media.
Steel Shot
Steel shot is a versatile, recyclable abrasive, widely used in airless equipment for high-production tasks. It's great for structural steel cleaning in blast room facilities too. Made from recycled steel, prices vary with scrap steel costs. A&B Deburring stocks various shot sizes, offering flexible quantities from a single 50-lb bag to full truckloads. Aerospace-grade steel shot is also available. Common applications include impact cleaning, shot peening, structural cleaning, floor restoration, roll etching, and ballasts.
Steel Grit
Steel grit is a highly recyclable abrasive, commonly used in airless equipment for high-production tasks. It's a popular choice for structural steel cleaning in blast room facilities, made from recycled steel with prices linked to scrap steel costs. A&B Deburring stocks various grit sizes and offers flexible quantities from a single 50-lb bag to full truckloads. Common applications include impact cleaning, structural cleaning, floor restoration, roll etching, and ballasts.
Crushed Corn Cobb
Crushed corn cobs are derived from the woody ring portion of corn cobs, processed into granules or fine powder. Ideal for pressure blasting, they offer mild abrasiveness, absorbency, and resilience. Benefits include no masking needed, eco-friendly, non-toxic, and non-sparking operation, with no silica content. Common applications include cleaning motors, insulators, pipes, and more. It's also used in metal finishing for deburring and polishing, as well as a drying media in industrial dryers.
Walnut Shell
Ground black walnut shell is a versatile, hard, and biodegradable abrasive sourced from eastern black walnut shells in the US. It comes in six primary sizes and can polish and clean soft metals, fiberglass, wood, and stone effectively without causing scratches or pits. Its excellent resistance to breakdown allows for multiple recycling in pressure blast applications. Common uses in metal finishing include cleaning fiberglass, wood, plastics, deburring moldings, castings, and electrical parts, paint removal on buildings, cleaning aircraft engine parts, and tumble polishing softer metals like gun housings, jewelry, and medical parts.
Plastic Media
Plastic blast media by A&B Deburring is perfect for gentle cleaning and stripping without damaging the substrate. It complies with the Mil-85891 specification. Common applications include paint and coatings removal, mold and tool cleaning, plastics deflashing, cryogenic deflashing, and metal deburring.
Sodium Bicarbonate
Baking soda, a gentle and effective abrasive, is used for stripping coatings and cleaning various substrates where minimal impact on the substrate is crucial. It safely removes soils and coatings from steel, stainless steel, alloys, aluminum, concrete, glass, and more. Specially designed blast equipment is required for precise and efficient application. Common uses include mold cleaning, engine overhaul, aerospace component cleaning, historical architecture restoration, and graffiti removal. For more information, check out the Clemco Soft King blast machine.
Coal Slag
Coal slag is commonly employed for paint, rust, and scale removal from steel in large projects like car/truck frames, tanks, and heavy machinery. An economical abrasive, it outperforms silica, being moisture-free, non-packing, and moisture-resistant. While excellent for one-time use in large-scale projects, it's not suitable for cabinet blasting.
Ceramic Media
Ceramic media is a durable, inexpensive, and versatile option for mass-finishing tasks, including polishing, deburring, and metal removal. It's excellent for heavy cutting and hard metals, and for small media needs, ceramics offer a wide selection. With precise shapes like triangles and stars, ceramic media aids in eliminating lodging issues during the finishing process. It also provides better support for heavy parts compared to plastic media.
Micro Powders
Micron-sized powders mixed with clean dry air make up the abrasive flow that a micro-abrasive blaster produces for deburring / cleaning / cutting, removing material, or preparing surfaces.
Almen Strips
Are thin strips of SAE 1070 steel used to measure the intensity of the shot peening process.
